On Late Night with Seth Meyers, Senator Bernie Sanders tells Seth why he will vote against the Freedom Act, and why he will never be distracted by writing erotica or by folk singing if he is elected as President of the United States.
Sanders voted against the original Patriot Act and he says would vote against the Freedom Act. He objects vehemently to the invasion of privacy we willingly allowed in the wake of 9-11.
In part, Sanders said: “We have got to be vigorous in protecting the American people from real threat of terrorism but we can’t do it in a way that does not invade privacy. We can’t go around telling people we’re a free country, when either the government or the corporate world knows every damned thing about you. That’s not really freedom.”
Things we don’t know about Bernie, include a literary effort in 1972 which he calls ‘a bad 50 Shades of Grey.’ The satirical piece is one Sanders would like to leave far behind him. But – Meyers has clearly done his homework, and the cringe-fest continues.
If you’ve enjoyed having a suave President who can sing the birds down from the trees, brace yourself for the musical stylings of Bernie! Seth Meyers kindly shares the 1987 recording of Bernie Sanders, (then Mayor of Burlington,Vermont) performing the Woodie Guthrie classic, ‘This Land Is Your Land.’ I predict the recording will join the best of William Shatner, in the spoken word category.
Sanders is under no illusions. “So now we have learned that I do bad fiction and bad music but I do have some attributes that are better than that.”
Seth’s advice: “You should almost say ‘vote for me or I’ll put out another album.”
