Seth Meyers checks in on Trump’s executive order to freeze federal hiring, and the impact it’s having on veterans. No one loves veterans more than Donald Trump, as Trump often said during his campaign. Trump bragged about his military expertise – both innate, and garnered from attending military school. Trump could not serve in Vietnam due to a tragic ‘foot thing.’ However, Trump told Howard Stern in ’93 and ’97 that he feels no guilt – nor should other men who dated in the 80’s during the AIDS epidemic, which Trump says was “like being in Vietnam.” Trump tells Stern he was “a brave soldier,” but his conclusion is telling: “Vaginas are landmines. It is my personal Vietnam.”
For some reason veterans trusted Trump when he promised to improve the shameful, understaffed care at V.A. hospitals, and pare down the disgraceful backlog of paperwork at the V.A..One solution might be the hiring of additional staff. Trump would know this if he’d made time to meet with representatives of veterans affairs. Instead, Trump busied himself cranking out executive orders, like the one which freezes all federal hiring, thus crippling veteran’s services.
When a campaigning Trump bellowed “I LOVE the vets” it was a glorious moment, with sustained cheers and applause! Vets may now be putting this ‘love’ in perspective. Trump was also fond of yelling “I LOVE the uneducated!”
Trump is signing executive orders as quickly as Steve Bannon hands them to him. He doesn’t seem concerned about the consequences, is it possible that Trump hasn’t even read them?
