The politics here of course is Indiana Republican Governor Mike Pence who signed the Religious Freedom Bill into law last week. Governor Mike Pence who since signing religious intolerance and bigotry into Indiana law is suddenly no longer a Republican presidential hopeful.
“Discrimination in any form is unacceptable to me, as long as anti-gay legislation exists in any state, I strongly believe big events such as the Final Four and Super Bowl should not be held in those states’ cities.” Republican leaning Basketball great Charles Barkley on Republican Governor Mike Pence signing the Indiana Religious Freedom Bill.
The horror of most all religion is how it can turn not only reality, but the truth around on it’s head like this. Calling a bill specifically to allow people, businesses and organizations to openly and legally discriminate against a class of people and call it an act of “religious freedom” goes beyond the pale. And then this evangelical governor Pence doubling down on that lie.
In the past week it was not only Charles Barkley coming out on this, but lots of people speaking up against this poop covered bone that the Indiana Republican legislature threw to their Evangelical supporters. The plan I suppose is that hopefully it will keep these religious Hoosier bigots from grabbing up American Gothic pitchforks and Salem torches to go chasing after those gays and lesbians who want to be married and have families just like anyone else. Oh the horror…
I hope the plan works and they are placated, for in many other religious parts of the world the mob often catches up with them and stones them to death, beheads them or starts them on fire in the name of the same God.
Why can’t we be more religious and have more religion in our politics and government like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan where it works so well. Oh almost forgot about Iraq and ISIS. We need more of that here.
