The spirit of Scrooge – the cheerful generous one – as he appeared on the day following visits by the apparitions is alive and well. His joy in giving is traveling across the country. A Michigan woman made news on Dec. 6th for paying off the layaway tabs at a Kmart store, and now the spirit of giving has traveled to Los Vegas, Montana and today Costa Mesa and points in-between. Wilson Automotive Group in Costa Mesa was inspired by the stories. Since then, they have helped 200 customers with approximately $15 thousand dollars worth of layaway pay-offs.
And what’s more, some Kmart shoppers upon learning that a stranger has paid off their layaway, are turning around and paying off someone else’s layaway. I like to think that Dickens would be pleased.
