Tax the high!
The numbers: Colorado sales for January were $14 million worth of pot sold, with $2 million collected in taxes with projected yearly sales of $600 million and about $100 million collected in taxes. 40% of sales are eatables.
Maybe there is one of those unintended consequences in this matter. That Coloradans will spend so much money on marijuana they won’t have any money left over to buy guns. Or forget to buy ammo when they buy a gun. Could marijuana make a state safer?
The issue that I find so profoundly missing in all this is that the cost of an ounce of pot being upwards of $400, why we hear nothing about growing it yourself. I mean really, now that it is legal you can grow it outside without need for hydroponics or grow lights, just throw some good seeds in the back yard and you have all the marijuana you can smoke or eat for FREE.
I really don’t understand why we don’t hear about this most obvious form of production? Come on, just a few buckets under the South side windows of an apartment. Is it American laziness? Is it pot smokers are rich so it doesn’t matter? Is it because pot smokers are all in a big hurry and it takes too long? Or is it just me living in Texas where an ounce of Mexican pot is still $70? Oops! Or so I am told.
