The lovey-dovey campaign ad, featuring the Ted Cruz family floating in a mist of pastel colored hugs, kisses and prayers didn’t come easily, and we have the unedited proof to show you. The extended family is gathered to show a ‘spontaneous’ slice of life with the good, Christian Cruz’s. The moms, dads, kids, cousins, even a whooping cough victim who barks non-stop, twinging on everyone’s last nerve until – I presume, he or she is shot.
They seem determined to convince us that with Cruz, you get God, too. Lies come easily to Ted Cruz, but his mom is more forthcoming. The camera captures a priceless moment, as Cruz stares into the camera and states that his mother ‘holds him up in prayer daily.’ That gets a nod of assent from mom, but when her son stretches the claim, saying mom prays for him ‘for hours every day.’ Mom’s eye roll tells you that her son has ventured into the bull’s pen and he’s stepped in ‘it.’ Think about it, if he’ll lie about his mama spending each day on her knees for hours, what else will this man lie about?
If we didn’t know this was staged, we would think this family was the most prayerful and physically affectionate family, this side of the Duggars. Hardly a four minute slice of life goes by without a hug and a sincere ‘I love you’ between every member, regardless of how many takes – it takes.
‘Vice’ said it best:
“This four-and-a-half minute gem is a long look into the sad, dark heart of the average political campaign ad, exposing the humiliation presidential candidates put themselves and their poor, exasperated families through in their bids for the highest office in the land.”
