I picked this Houston Chronicle Nick Anderson cartoon mainly for three of the comments below it. Let’s get the most expected one out of the way..

The guy in the middle kinda looks like Nick Anderson.
But these short and sweet comments are what this issue of gay marriage rests upon. The false premise and the slap down.

Which part of the Constitution governs the statutes of marriage?

The Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment covers every citizen. Try reading it.
The first comment is the prime example of where the Tea Party and GOP fall apart screeching about the constitution. They pick and choose what parts of it and what Amendments they like or don’t like. They corrupt the 1st and 4th, worship the 2nd and 9th and ignore the 14th. In fact, like the Voting Rights Act, Republicans want to rewrite the 14th Amendment more to their liking. They did succeed in changing the Voting Rights Act, but that was just a Bill, they have a harder row to hoe changing the Constitution try as they might.
Keep in mind the logo of the Tea Party is that snake with the words DON’T TREAD ON ME. Not DON’T TREAD ON US. And there you have the entire political division in America boiled down to just 5 letters. Me v Us.
