Seth checks in on how nearly 40 years of government deregulation led to the horrific incidents and poor service of airlines today. The good news is that Congress held a hearing today to ask airline executives what changes they plan to make in light of the horrific incidents that come to light recently.
The bad news is that we’ve played a part in creating this emphasis on cheap flights and lack of customer service. As Seth points out: “If there was an airline that offered $50 round trip tickets to any destination as long as the pilot could open slap any passenger of his choice, that airline would never have an empty seat. You’d say I like those odds! ”
The solution will have to come from the government, but it probably won’t come from Trump who has never flown on public airlines, and who has a VIP lounge in his gold-encrusted flying bordello.
Like everything else, Trump’s approach is to drop all regulation. After all, he promised;“It’ll be just as good as what we have now.”
