Samantha Bee takes us to Tennessee, where busy lawmakers decided on a state rifle, debated pet skunks, passed a bathroom bill – because of transgender danger, and passed another bill to further victimize rape victims. It was a fruitful time, it’s a crying shame the rifle debate couldn’t go on forever.
The party of small government is responsible for passing the ‘Papers Please’ bills that are so popular with conservatives these days. If you thought having photo ID to vote was the limit, wait until you have to pee, and some bathroom bouncer thinks you need to show a birth certificate first. Ann Coulter might finally encounter problems linked to that Adam’s apple of hers.
Allegedly, the bill protect women and small boys from transgender perverts lurking in public bathrooms. Lawmakers assume that A. transgender folks are perverts, and that B. they lurk in bathrooms. Personal fantasy does play a part in lawmaking; but there are no incidents of transgender perversion inside of public bathrooms. As Sam points out, this is a non-existent threat. The existing threat is Jeremy Durham, the key sponsor of the bill. Oddly, for someone who’s so concerned about perversion, Durham is a bad actor in that regard, and has intervened in the case of one of the worst. As always, Sam puts an informative and amusing spin on Durham and his cohorts.
