Senior Religious Reporter John Oliver explains how the coming Christian Rapture – just a few days away now – will save America from the Devil’s own health care reform! With all Republicans flown to Heaven it will leave only Democrats around to fight the evil monsters let loose upon the world before they all go to Hell. Of course that goes without saying, but without Republicans around Democrats can pass whatever they please! Luckily we have John Oliver to resolve this problem for us!
For a person or a group of persons to hope, wish, want, desire and pray that every man, woman and child in the world (7 billion people) are to be burned and crushed to death by Jesus Christ (mass murderer) so they can personally go to Heaven. You know that makes whatever Hitler thought about the Jews tame by comparison. Though there is that big difference regarding REALITY of ones hopes and dreams.
But as the years pass I have gained far more empathy for these people than I have for the Libertarian Right. Though I am often angered by evangelical bigotry, mindless intolerance and violent answers to life, I understand they mean well.
These people are neither the sharpest knives in the drawer or the best looking kids on the block. This tends to cause rejection and loneliness and they need something to cling to for compensation. They are easy pickings for the evangelical preachers who prey on them to create their empires so they can live as millionaires as Jesus wanted. Most evangelicals are simple warm people, who want to be accepted by others rather than rejected. They do not know any better and mean well.
On the other hand, the Libertarian Right knowingly and wantonly wishes to see the least of us suffer and die so they can put an extra buck in their pocket. Selfishness, greed and money are their Gods, a coldly disengaged group who are smart enough to know better.
I saw a young women "a-um" her way through an interview on MSNBC Mornin’ Joe the other day. Gina Welch is a liberal atheist whose new book "In the Land of Believers" has her infiltrated Jerry Falwell’s Liberty Baptist. She too found that herself having far more empathy for the human warmth of Evangelical Fundamentalists than she expected, they mean well.
