As a free speech advocate my entire life – and not being a hypocrite – I have to support Rev Phelps freedom to say what he wants where he wants. I wonder what all these Tea Baggers waving the constitution around have to say about this one?
I also admit to defending the Rev. Phelps because it gives the world a good hard front page look into the reality of what CHRISTIANITY breeds in so many – especially the unique American brand of it. So much intolerance, bigotry and hate. Que es mas malo? Christianity or Islam? Kick! The Religion Pages
I do have a couple concerns though.
Many may confuse this with Hate Crime Legislation which it is not. Phelps is not using hate speech to commit violence or a crime. Two completely different things.
My other concern is what seems to be my genetically induced pacifism. Not only what Bill Maher suggests with allowing them to come close enough to the grave site so the mourners can shove their signs up their asses, but that we already have groups of bikers who can be called to shield the mourners from the Phelps.
With only a few dozen friends and family members making up the entire body of the Phelps Church, it is possible they could all be wiped out in one angry swoop of Harley’s and Hearses.
