So why would the President of the United States go out of his way to call and congratulate Erdogan for winning a referendum to firm up his dictatorship?

There are two reasons.

First Donald Trump is himself a fascist and thinks fascism is the way to go.

But secondly and perhaps more importantly, is the picture here of the 2010 Trump Towers and what he said about them in 2015:

“I have a little conflict of interest, because I have a major, major building in Istanbul … It’s called Trump Towers. Two towers, instead of one. Not the usual one, it’s two. And I’ve gotten to know Turkey very well.”

Speaking of fascism on the rise throughout the world. gWhy?
