Remember the theme of the original movie, one cranky old white guy refusing to give an inch to African Americans in an African American neighborhood who are 100% of his customers which ultimately causes the neighborhood and his business to burn down. You know, kind of like today’s Republican Party.
In 1990 when DO THE RIGHT THING came out of video I went to my local video store to rent it. It was not played in theaters much down here in the South. The overweight slovenly white owner of the store with the eggs in his beard and the little confederate flag stuck in an empty 6oz Coke bottle on the counter angrily told me that he does not carry, rent or allow RACIST CRAP MOVIES in his store. So I gave up and just went through the curtain to rent more appropriate approved movies.
I noticed Amy Goodman in the video. Here in Houston public radio did do All Things Considered and Morning Addition but throughout the entire day, from 9am to 4pm they only played classical music. To keep as much liberal controversy off the air out of fear that the oil industry would hold back support and donations if Diane Rehms or some other undesirable brought up the environment.
But luckily here in Houston we have Pacifica radio. Amy Goodman would give us an extra hour of NON RIGHT-WING SWILL from 9am to 10am each morning. Well until Pacifica [or Goodman] for some really crazy stupid insane reason moved her show up an hour earlier to compete with Morning Edition causing not only me but uncounted others to never hear from Amy Goodman again. Which is why most all of yall reading this have never heard of Pacifica radio.
And lastly, in just 25 years Rosie went from the hottest thing on Earth to not so much.
