‘Improv Everywhere’ approached real New Yorkers and offered them our Texting and Walking service. Equipped with safety vests, leashes and bullhorns, Improv Everywhere talked texting pedestrians into connecting with a ‘guide’ and being led…Often at a gallop, and quite loudly – down city streets. The reactions from other pedestrians are priceless, and the fact that some people latched on and cooperated is nothing short of amazing!
On April 30, we presented the first installment. Improv Everywhere donned orange safety vests and convinced people that they were from the Public Works Department. They then asked pedestrians to agree to either be led, or take part as a leader. The reaction was spotty, making the cooperation this time around, all the more amazing! Could it be that people are more aware of the dangers of texting and walking now? Naw…I didn’t think so either.
