Sunscreen Chemicals Are Destroying Coral Reefs And Now Hawaii Is Banning Them
For a few years I worked in the Florida Keys on work boats and sport fishing boats and did a lot of snorkeling. This is something I know a little about.
Before 10am or after 4pm sunscreen is not necessary. In the high sun hours wear a T-shirt and put some zinc oxide or fish blood on your forehead, nose, cheeks and tops of your feet. The best fish blood is of course Mia Mia which flop around in the boat so intensely they send so much blood in the air you don’t even have to apply it, just rub it around a bit. Oh, and if you are sitting a lot, on the top of your thighs.
The most dangerous thing one can do is snorkel without a shirt for a long period of time. That inch or so of water splashing over one’s back magnifies.
The women HERE cover the grandkids in sunscreen on cloudy days, in the evening, and even if it is just a 15 minutes swim. An hour or two is not a problem. A little sunburn in the Spring is fine, makes a base for the Summer.
