Russell Brand looks at the reaction of celebrities such as Liam Neeson, Seth Rogan and Michael Moore to the gun culture and the movie American Sniper. Clint Eastwood directed a biopic of sniper Chris Kyle called “American Sniper” and ammosexuals are losing their minds. They seem to believe that the second amendment trumps the freedom of speech – for those who disagree with them.
Many Americans wonder if Director Clint Eastwood should be celebrating a killer. If you ask this question, you are an unpatriotic dirtbag who doesn’t appreciate our troops or our veterans and you should be deported to Iraq! So says Sarah Palin, and so say they all. Lock and Load!
Actor Lian Neeson is in their sites for using a gun in a movie, and then having the audacity to say “America has too many ‘bleeping’ guns.” Predictably there is much bitterness directed at Neeson, I believe he’s broken their hearts. Neeson has long acted in ‘revenge prom.’ What his fans didn’t realize is that the films are fantasy. Good guys and bad guys. Neeson isn’t a gun-waving maniac in real life! Reality is a hard pill to swallow, apparently.
Michael Moore who lost a relative to a sniper attack called them cowards. He is not more beloved by the right for that remark – or for anything, come to think of it. He is however, entitled to express his opinion. A recent photo of Sarah Palin at the Las Vegas gun festival shows Palin and two buddies holding a sign. The sign says “F** Michael Moore” and the two o’s have gun sites drawn in. Stay classy Sarah!
Seth Rogan exercised his right to free speech by comparing Chris Kyles’ biopic to a Nazi propaganda film. This irked (non solder type) Todd Starnes of the American Dispatch, who called Rogan “someone who made his mark with movies about sexually frustrated potheads.” Oh Snap! Rogan’s credibility is gone.
This brings to mind the dehumanization that takes place in war. If you call your enemy a cockroach, rat, scum…mother stabber, father raper – or a sexually frustrated pothead. They become much easier to kill when they aren’t human like you.
Russell Brand doesn’t dispute Chris Kyle’s bravery, or the bravery of anyone prepared to go into war. Among other things, he would like people to think about fear. When people are frightened they want to buy guns. They also enjoy living vicariously through a Chris Kyle who “Hates the bleeping Iraqis,” and claimed to enjoy killing them without a second thought. Children and non-combatants are seen merely as eggs that must be broken to make an omelete.
Patriotism and humanity. It’s beginning to look as though they’re mutually exclusive. It might be worth looking at the motives of anyone who wants you to be frightened, and who glorifies killing.
On our hero, I know I’m going way out on a limb here, but maybe the best place to conduct ‘therapy’ for soldiers with PTSD isn’t on a firing range.
