Bernie Sanders speech explaining Medicare for all - Single Payer Health care system

Bernie Sanders speech explaining Medicare for all - Single Payer Health care systemI love Bernie. He is a character. But I have to ask, is an old Jewish socialist curmudgeon the right man for the biggest and most important job we face?

Has Bernie ever laughed, or smiled, or ever said anything funny for that matter? What does Bernie do for fun?  The only thing I would buy from Bernie is hemorrhoid medication. Perhaps he should hand this over to Cory Booker or Al Franken?

To the point. In this speech he misses the specific how of it, which is what those questioning this act of wanton socialism most need to hear. How it works for ME.

The basics of it’s success all around the world are known. Everyone is equally covered, everyone equally pays in, the profit motive is removed and there are better outcomes for less money. We know that.

A few nations have the government control and run it while most control the rules but use existing insurance companies to run it in non profit mode. What is direly needed is for you and I and our representatives to run the show not lobbies controlled by billionaires who play to their board and investors rather than to our health.

Start from a number Bernie.

Let’s say each working individual will have $500 a month deducted from their pay check. Why cannot the employers who now pay for health insurance for over 60% of us just give each employee a $500 a month bonus instead. 60% of Americans will get it free without all the complication and angst.

Just like Medicare there will be limits and copays. Existing insurance companies can hold on to profits to cover that with supplemental plans which most of us will buy, just like Medicare.

Do not be fooled, Republicans would eliminate Medicare if they could, just like they want to eliminate Social Security and Medicaid, that is their nature.

Medicare For All is their worst nightmare even though most Americans are for a single payer system, helping everyone is anathema to who Republicans are, they only want to help themselves, and most certainly not those less white or less Christian than they.

It is the most profound historical political issue of our nation.

I DO NOT WANT MY TAX MONEY GOING TO NEGROES [and more recently] OR MEXICANS.

So until Democrats take both the House and Senate this will continue to be just so much talk.
