Though the Jamal Washington Monument is the best of the bunch here, this one of Mount Kushmore is more fun and to the point. Hey, did Woody Harrelson quit smoking?
As the long overdue confederate statues come down there is one that will soon become the biggest fight. The Stone Mountain confederacy sculpture is the #1 tourist attraction in Georgia, encompassing a very profitable park and surrounding businesses.
Stone Mountain was owned by the Venable Brothers and was chosen by The Daughters of the Confederacy because it was the site of the founding of the second Ku Klux Klan in 1915 in response to the popularity of BIRTH OF A NATION and the lynching of Leo Frank that same year. Though the work began in 1916 it was abandoned in 1928. It was then purchased by the State of Georgia in 1958, work began again in 1963 and was completed in 1972.
Stone Mountain depicts the three of the four most well known traitors in American history, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. Benedict Arnold owned no slaves.
As an old artillery officer I know how to deal with that monument dedicated to slavery, treason and war.
You know like ISIS did to The Buddha which stood for peace, love and getting along.
The same thing. The same moral equivalency. The same many sides. Both equal guilty.
