Social media erupted when a portrait of a white Louisiana Gov Bobby Jindal was recently seen hanging in his office.
Like the Beatle’s famous ‘White Album,’ Jindal’s White Portrait has brought him a certain amount of (social media) fame.
The portrait, which bears little resemblance to Jindal, is most noticeable for the extremely pale complexion, which makes Jindal appear as though he was painted with a coat of whitewash right after seeing a ghost. Others have noted that the crooked smile is gone, as is the trademark hairstyle, all combining to give him a look more in keeping with a Romney family member than with his proud Indian heritage. The unknown artist obviously cannot be reached. We will never know if this was an intentional attempt to lighten up his governor, or if he simply ran out of the necessary colors. The arts are underfunded, this would be a great way to draw attention to that fact – or not.
It was only after the story took flight on social media that Jindal’s office sought to straighten out the misconception that the pale portrait is not another ‘official’ portrait, but is on loan from an artistic constituent. We presume this leaves George Bush out as a culprit? We are told to forget our suspicions that Jindal is up to anything, and it is merely a coincidence that the anglicized image appears as Jindal prepares for a presidential run.
However, there is still fun to be had. Thanks to Buzzfeed for some tweets that show how some Americans are viewing the newly pasty-faced Republican…Or the India Pale Ailin’ if you please.
@gregorg @mlse “Hi, I’m Rob Lowe.” “And I’m Indian Rob Lowe.”

@CenLamar @theInd Rick Santorum looks mighty disheveled these days.
@nycsouthpaw He has a halo thing going on. Part’s on the wrong side. Half-grin missing. Did someone pay for this? In Confederate bills?
