Boston Marathon bombing suspect Salah Eddin Barhoum has the New York Post to thank for his celebrity. The teenager who was never pursued or questioned by authorities was pegged by the Post, in the media frenzy to scoop numerous other news outlets, who are in a holding pattern of both conjecture and repetition. Yesterday CNN, noted for criticizing false news leads, both created a suspect story, a retraction of that highly inaccurate story and then a story about the mix-up. A slightly embarrassing oopsie for The Post has turned into a frightening vigil for Barhoum, who is now being harassed online by a non-reader in Oregon, and hordes of media on his doorstep.
