If Amendment 69 passes, Colorado will become the first state in the US to employ a single-payer healthcare system, prompting Seth Meyers to quip that 69 is symbolic – the amendment will ensure that everyone is taken care of equally. Equality would certainly be a first for healthcare in the U.S., which is the lone hold-out among wealthy nations.
Also like those nations, a payroll tax would cover the cost, and one entity – not thousands, will negotiate and pay for services. If Colorado, the first to legalize pot – can make this work too, the sweet bird of freedom should fly proudly on their state flag.
I think this is such an excellent explanation of the problem we face and the possible solution for it, that I’ll hope you’ll take a moment to watch. This short presentation is both informative and amusing…And maybe you’ll wish to leave your thoughts. United Healthcare has bailed out of Obamacare. Blue Cross and Blue Shield will follow. Why leave you ask? The insurer’s compliant is ‘too many sick people are signing up.’ You can’t make this stuff up. Assuming single-payer healthcare works for Colorado, do you see it working for the entire United States, or is there a better option?
Pictured is Larry the Cable Doctor, pushing a pill that costs over $200 each in the U.S., $42 in the U.K and $23 in the Netherlands. It isn’t cheap anywhere, but why are we so proud of American Exceptionalism?
