Dukes of Hazzard’s ‘Cooter’ Ben Jones, Helped Oust Eric Cantor

The Dukes of Hazzard’s Cooter Takes Credit for Helping Oust Cantor

Possibly no one is more surprised about the outcome of the primary election than sitting House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. After all, Cantor’s own polling had him up by approximately 30 percentage points. He lost by ten, having learned nothing from Mitt Romney, whose own pollsters were moving a few of Romney’s personal items into the White House when the real election results rolled in.

Not only did Cantor lose, he lost to a Tea Partier Dave Brat…Which is impossible!  Cantor outspent Brat by a factor of forty to one ($5 million to $122,000) everyone knows that the guy who spends the most, wins! He courted all of the right people, and ignored all of the ‘little’ ones who couldn’t help him…Besides, whoever heard of Dave Brat?!

Cantor, who questioned whether religion played a part in his loss, may have to face the facts. “He got too big for his britches and a coalition took him on. Mainstream Republicans, moderate Republicans, Independents, Tea Party and Democrats all joined forces to get rid of Eric Cantor.” according to Ben Jones. Jones is also known as ‘Cooter’ to fans of ‘Dukes of Hazzard.’ Jones  also served for four years in the United States House of Representatives, and was key in pushing the diverse coalition to oust Cantor.

Jones and Cantor tangled in 2002. Jones said Cantor “ran a truly dishonorable campaign.”  Jones claims Cantor simply ditched debates, and in extensive mailing campaigns, slandered Jones by mocking his Southern heritage and even questioning Jone’s patriotism.   In the video shown, Jones said what really defeated Eric Cantor was hubris, and emphasized that a broad coalition of people voted Cantor out of office, not one person or party.

Said Jones, “It’s a hopeful sign that people can work together and maybe move this country ahead.”  It is hopeful when someone is so obnoxious that he can bring such diverse groups together, united in the sole purpose of booting him out of office. .America, there’s hope for you yet.
