God Posse fights constitution to unseat popular Atheist councilman

The God Posse claims that "Not believing in God is a sin," making the newly sworn councilman Cecil Bothwell, "unworthy to serve." While Bothwell, and the
majority of the voters in Raleigh, North Carolina have the U.S. Constitution on their side, the God Squad has a real jewel in their defense!

The opposition has located an antiquated and over-looked glitch in North Carolina’s state constitution from 1868, which disqualifies officeholders "Who shall deny the being of Almighty God." Side note:The state constitution does not
overrule the U.S.Constitution. That should be the end of it, but the battle
continues. No doubt some are hostile considering the book Bothwell released in November titled " Billy Graham’s Crusade for a Wholly Christian Empire," a tell – all book which is less than laudatory about American icon Graham…just in time for Christmas giving!

Many states in the union still have laws on the books which have been long forgotten. A very few still on the books in North Carolina include: Oral sex is a crime against nature. Elephants may not be used to plow cotton fields. Women
must have their bodies covered by at least 16 yards of cloth at all times. While having sex, you must stay in the missionary position and have the shades pulled. (we don’t know who policed this one). No one may visit their departed loved ones late at night. The particular law being used in the attempt to oust Cecil Bothwell is simply another example of the dusty relics still in the books, and long overlooked. In fact, six other states still have the same archaic provisions on the books barring atheists from holding office. This seems to be in direct conflict with the separation of church and state. Would this be a bad time to mention a few office holders who ran on a Christian platform, only to be exposed sinning recently and proving themselves at best – "unworthy to
serve?"

The law only specifies believing in God, they do not state a religion. It is amusing to wonder what kind of bru-ha-ha could have erupted had Bothwell been a Buddist, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or of the Bahai faith.
