Fist up, hands up, same old story

hands up

“If I win, I am American, not a black American. But if I did something bad, then they would say I am a Negro. We are black and we are proud of being black. Black America will understand what we did tonight.” Tommie Smith on the black power fist salute during the Star Spangled Banner.

Indeed, almost 50 years later the same thing.  It must be noted that both Tommie Smith and John Carlos were booed at the event and when they returned home they suffered a full bore unrelenting media attack, received endless death threats and were blacklisted from the American Industrial Sports Complex for the rest of their lives.

Personally I would like to see every African American NBA and NFL player raise their hands during the National Anthem for games this coming weekend. The Rams players were dealt no punishment from the NFL but they did not do it during the National Anthem. But if they do, I wonder if there will be enough white cops around to shoot them or choke them to death?

So far raising your hands to decry cops killing unarmed black kids is not worse than knocking out your wife or beating the crap out of a 4 year old. Well so far anyway…

One thing both the Michael Brown and Eric Garner incidents prove unequivocally is that Fox News, talk radio, and the RNC do not like black people AT ALL. There is no longer any question about that. And with the ensuing immigration fight, they  prove they don’t like Latinos any better. Problem is “running on white” wins for the foreseeable future anyway. And for Republicans, the forseeable future is all there is.
