It’s video games at fault for the Navy Yard slaughter. Grand Theft Auto V came out as yet another assault rifle massacre ensued. And of course mental health. Even though we all know the core of the fault line is our American gun culture.
Somewhere along the line I came to realize that our celebration of guns and executions are the driving forces of our violent American culture. 10 times more violent than any other industrialized nation. And that is not even addressing the 4 million poor people we have bombed to death since WW2.
The weight of a gun, how it explodes in the hand, the fire, the smoke, the smell, the speed of the bullet, the smashing of a target, flesh and bone are all examples of the most violent act possible. And of course tying up an unarmed soul, dragging them down a hall, nailing them to a cross strapping them down on a gurney and killing them. All in the name of Jesus, and even worse, in my name.
What I find most disconcerting here is that this political cartoon comes from SYRIA no less. Even in a place where they are actively blowing themselves up in massive religious violence – RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE – they find our gun culture unconscionable.
