Seth Meyers checks in on how President Trump’s campaign promise to drain the Washington, D.C. swamp of insiders, lobbyists and special interest groups is going. Trump’s campaign promises and his reign of terror once elected, bear little in common. During the campaign,Trump succeeded in expressing his promises in easily remembered three-syllable chants like ‘Lock Her Up!’ ‘ Build a Wall!’ and of course the hit, ‘Drain the Swamp!’ Gosh, the people loved chanting those slogans! Good times.
Asked to focus on how he plans to drain the swamp, Trump launches into a fond reverie about the creation of the chant which he thought was ‘goofy’ at first, just like Frank Sinatra who didn’t much like the song ‘My Way’ at first. But, because the people went ‘craaaaazy’ just like Frank, Donny listened to the people, and we have a beloved chant for the ages!
If you must know the tiresome details of swamp clearing, you won’t find them on Trump’s web site. Seth has a sickening view to the land of the lost, where ethics violations and regulations have no place. Enormous, slimy wealth monsters throw money at pesky regulations, and the promises Trump made were merely catchy slogans to entertain the folks who will be eaten before this menagerie is eventually exterminated.
