It looked fishy when Trump fired Sally Yates, and even more so when he fired FBI Director James Comey…Yet Trump is still here. What would happen if Trump fired Robert Mueller, or if Trump donned his best frock and released Mueller memorably? Would firing Mueller be the tipping point? Trump may hope instead that firing Mueller will give him more breathing room. See when and how Richard Nixon reached the tipping point with Watergate, although Nixon’s scandal now seems almost like child’s plan by comparison with Trump’s obstruction of justice and uncanny relationship with the Russians. You’ll recall that Trump once said he could shoot someone on New York’s 5th Avenue and get away with it. After what we have seen, that remark seems less like campaign hyperbole, and more like a simple fact.
So,what would it take to reach the tipping point? Trump might as well have announced collusion with the Russians when he invited them to hack Hillary Clinton’s email. How about Trump’s ‘new guy mistake’ when he invited ‘the’ Russians into the Oval Office privately, and as a lovely parting gift, gave them classified documents. How about this scenario…If Trump climbed a clock tower, dressed in drag, lobbing grenades, blowing bubbles and firing indiscriminately into a crowd of rally-goers, killing 2,000 and injuring 1,250. What do you think Paul Ryan would say? I apologize. That is a ridiculous scenario. Most clock towers aren’t constructed with escalators or elevators. You get the idea though, I presume.
