A few days ago we posted Jimmy Kimmel’s hilariously brilliant pro-vaccination PSA which featured genuine doctors who could not hide their frustration with people who reject proven medical facts, and base their anti-vaccination stance on a variety of sources, from forwarded emails and hear-say to misinformed celebrities.
Jimmy must have expected a bit of push-back, but what he received from anti-vaxxers was flaming hot! Watch and listen to what people wrote, and what they called Jimmy – just for presenting the facts! The physicians, who have dedicated numerous years to their professions, should be considered experts in the field of disease control, but not by these folks!
Jimmy’s PSA was intended to inform in a humorous way, but many people took it as a call to arms. Jimmy received a flaming twitter account full of fury, which you will see, but I advise wearing eye protection and asbestos oven mitts. Here are but two of Jimmy’s tweets, and they are not the most hostile of the lot.
“May I just say…@Jimmykimmel YOU ARE A F*****NG PIECE OF S*IT HOLLYWEIRD SCUMBAG! Excuse My French! DROP DEAD YOU F****NG DOUCHE BAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“IMHO Jimmy Kimmel!JimmyKimmelLive is worse than the Priests abusing Boys andBill Cosby drugging Girls @Boycott @ABC”
As you can see, people feel passionately about vaccinations, and they have considered their position with reason and calm. Many are demanding that Jimmy apologize, and that he present ‘both sides’ of the argument. He won’t be doing either of those things, as it would be insincere and stupid.
I can’t figure out why people so very angry about this? The internet is on fire with arguments about vaccination. By the way, most of those arguing against – were vaccinated as babies. There is definitely something wrong with those who flamed Jimmy, but it cannot be linked to a measles shot. Not since the war between the states, have Americans been divided with such utter delusion, lack of vital information and blind conviction!
I may be about to answer my own question, after looking at some of the ‘sources’ anti-vaxxers have cited. The sites and blogs fueling the dispute are similar in philosophy, with deep distrust of government and/or modern medicine at their core. Anti-vaxxers, when pushed to cite their sources in heated arguments online, will often give a dot com address belonging to a natural living blog, or a right-wing anti-government site.
As an added treat, Jimmy sends his misguided ‘protesters’ “Jack and Becky, community activists” out. The pair always present an absurd topic which they attempt to ‘sell’ to anyone who makes eye contact. Today, Jack and Becky are anti-vaccination crusaders.
Jack and Becky pretend to believe in “A child’s right to choose” vaccination. They based it on double blind study in which children were offered either a vaccination shot (that hurts) or a yummy lollipop. You won’t be surprised to learn that one hundred percent of respondents
refused the vaccination, and chose the lollipop. There’s yer proof!
Oddly, Jack and Becky didn’t find any parents who would sign their petition. The anti-vaxxers must be at home flaming Jimmy!
