Kids say the darndest things, though we must keep in mind that well into their Eighties the vast majority of them are only reflecting their parents politics and religion. But as in all things there are anomalies, most pointedly the Sixties when cultural rebellion led kids rejecting their parents politics. And here now for a generation kids have come to be far closer to their parents politically, socially and culturally than when I came of age. Smoking pot and going to a Stones concert with your parents back in 1969 would have been unheard of. Well unless you were five and you mother wore flowers in her hair.
As to late night shows, the are all hosted by liberals, after all one has to be both funny and smart to pull that off which leaves Republicans with only Dennis Miller and the Cable Guy. Playing to more general audiences as network late night shows do, hosts have always had to try and hide their political or religious biases, though there is now a new a new guy on the block who isn’t playing. In fact the conservative community is already screeching about what a failure Late Night with Stephen Colbert is.
I would guess it will not change, with the hierarchy of Fallon, Colbert, Kimmel and Conan with cable’s Comedy Central following with the Daily and Nightly shows. Fallon’s talent will be hard for Colbert’s political acumen to beat. Though it is now the year of politics.
