The Republican Governors Conference down in Miami bode well of things to come for the Republican Party, if you are a Democrat that is, with Sarah Palin the star of the show.
For different reasons the media and the Republican Base(Hillbillies) love Sarah Palin which the GOP can do nothing about other than stand behind her and smile for the cameras.
90% of Republicans want Governor Palin stay in the national spotlight and 67% want her to run for President in 2012. Numbers mean things. And the GOP cannot ignore the fact that somewhere between 67% and 90% of their Party are either lunatics or on drugs.
I personally have nothing against Hillbillies, some of my best friends are Hillbillies, but I sure don’t want any of them making decisions outside their immediate lives. Face tattoos, tongue hardware, snake handling and free PEZ are a lot of fun, but mandated? I don’t know…
I enjoy watching what is happening to the GOP mostly because it’s about 20 years overdue. Ronald Reagan put an acceptable amount of lipstick on the pig, but when he left the White House, the back and front end of the pig became indiscernible.
The Republicans are having a fight for the soul of the party, a split between the Moderates and Social Conservatives.
The Moderate side have Christie Whitman, John Danforth, Bob Dole and a few new faces with Governors Pawlenty and Jindal. These Moderates represent unregulated free market economics, reducing taxes on the wealth, military build up, no government involvement in Health Care and still want to privatize Social Security. Wow hey!
The other side, the BASE, or the Social Conservatives are represented these days by Sarah Palin with Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly tagging behind. This Base represents unregulated free market economics, reduction of taxes of the wealth, military build up, no government involvement in Health Care, privatizing Social Security with the added deminsion of ethnic bigotry and religious intolerance. Its a hard choice I know…
Watching the debate over the past week I find the only difference not ideological at all. All the Moderates want to do is tone down the rhetoric to make them sound more amenable to alternate energy, more inclusive to minorities and to move the growing unpopular social issues off the front page of the Republican Brand. Other than that it’s the same old pig.
My favorite Wing-nut columnist is Jonah Goldberg. I can always count on him to express the worst in the human condition, an utterly disgusting human being on all fronts; family, politics, personality and appearance. He is much like the Army slogan backwards, Be Much Less than You Can Be! This week for the first time I found myself actually cheering him along as I read. Don’t try to excise social conservatives from the GOP
The argument is that the GOP has no choice but to side with the Base of Social Conservatives, Hillibillies will save the Republican Party! The fight against abortions, Homos, sex education, Mexicans, African Americans, stem cell research and evolution are the future of the GOP!
Go Jonah Go!
Not picture here are the three best known purveyors of moving the GOP back to the Dark Ages; Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly. Or did I mention them earlier?
