Keith Olbermann sees an opportunity in the disgusting mess that Rush made. It’s obviously impossible to lower the limbo pole of public standards further, but it is high time to move it up several notches. To that end, he discontinues his ‘Worst Persons’ segment – again,(and I suspect for a time), and explains incidents where he has been accused of lowbrow commentary and apologizes again although his words were used out of context.
The logical conclusion to this self-examination leads to current accusations by The Right who claim moral equivalency. While Mr. Olbermann may have been apologetic, he in no way is deluded. There simply is no equivalent for the words and deeds which comprise the bulk of daily discourse.
As of this writing Senator John McCain is the only ranking Republican to condemn Rush Limbaugh for his vile treatment of Sandra Fluke! The cowardice and misogyny of Mitt Romney was never more apparent. His refusal to comment on a mere radio shock jock told us all we need to know about his regard for the women in his own life – his wife, his daughters and his own mother are not worth a word of censure. We needn’t wonder how little he cares for other women.
Presented with Rush Limbaugh’s comments, President Obama expressed what one would expect a son, husband and a father of daughters to feel.
"I don’t claim to know what’s in Rush Limbaugh’s heart, but all decent folks can agree that the remarks that were made have no place in the public discourse. I thought about Sasha and Malia. The reason I called Ms Fluke, is that
I want them to be able to speak their minds in a civil and thoughtful way and I don’t want them to be attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens." President Barack Obama
