Like many of us, author Kate Anderson Brower was curious about what it is really like to live in the White House, and she wondered what secrets the walls at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue hold about the people who have called the historic mansion home. That is why Brower wrote “The Residence” a book which promises juicy behind-the-scenes glimpses at our presidents and their families. If her short interview with Lawrence O’Donnell is any indication, my next stop is Amazon to order a copy,
In the short time allotted, we learn who smoked pot in the White House. It’s not Willie Nelson, if memory serves, he was outside, on the roof. The pot smokers (plural) – were related to a certain president from Georgia. One clue, it was not Rosalynn. We also catch a touching glimpse of the Obama’s relationship, and we hear a bizarre story about LBJ.
I can divulge that L.B J was clean – if not modest. Johnson used his shower for relaxation, and it cannot be stressed enough how important it was to him. When LBJ moved to the White House the shower was not up to his specifications. In fact, Johnson told the unfortunate in charge,”If you can’t get that shower of mine fixed, I’m going to have to move back to the Elms.” The Elms was the Johnson’s Washington D.C. mansion…And he was quite serious.
Johnson’s bathroom was equipped with a shower like nothing the staff had ever seen: water charging out of multiple nozzles in every direction, with needle like intensity…One nozzle was pointed directly at the President’s penis, which he nicknamed “Jumbo.’ Another shot right up his rear.”
You’re welcome. I know that visual will be with you for a long time to come. ; )
