Lipstick Liberal has spotted a growing syndrome among conservative Americans. Called A.L.R. – the disease can be diagnosed by answering a few simple questions. Like other addiction-related problems, healing can only begin when the sufferer admits that there is a problem and recognizes the signs in him or herself. One of the many signs of A.L.R. (or A Little Racism) is an addiction to ‘Fox News’ which also reinforces the basic beliefs necessary to maintaining bigotry through magical thinking. Lipstick Liberal mentions Mitt Romney’s ill conceived attempt to reach Latino voters in one notable speech. A typical sufferer of A.L.R. feels that ‘those people’ are ingrates for voting for Obama. A non-sufferer might feel that a can of instant tan does not build a bridge of trust and understanding.
