Religion – n. 1 Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.
As you can see, it’s that last one religionists use to make their claim that non religion is religion. Like communism, socialism are religions but democracy and capitalism are not. Once you go down that road ANYTHING can be a religion. It is not FAITH or BELIEF that a RELIGION makes, it is faith and belief in supernatural deities. If RELIGION was defined as a BELIEF then the belief in Bigfoot, UFOs, Ghosts, Luck, Democracy, that it may rain on Tuesday or that Michele Bachmann has a brain would all be RELIGIONS.
Bill O’Reilly really cleared it up for me yesterday commenting on the recent Planned Parenthood win over Komen.
Upon my death I don’t want to stand in front of God trying to explain how I supported the destruction of a fetus, and I certainly don’t want my breast cancer donations to go to Planned Parenthood.
So the most popular and beloved opinionator on television actually believes that when he dies, he stands on a cloud and is grilled by GOD himself as to where his donations went. Bill O’Reilly will have to tell God that he did all he could do to force women into dirty motel rooms to be hacked up by and often killed by butchers.
Can I out atheist Bill Maher? Let me give it a shot here…
What I found so enlightening from Dead O’Reilly’s God Interview is that there are grownup men and women who actually believe God interviews dead people in Heaven. They are not, as I always assumed, just pretending to help alleviate the pain and sorrow death heaps upon children and widows, or is for people too ugly and/or stupid to get laid in bars.
