Political cartoonist Mark Fiore takes a look at the gaggle of GOP candidates and their gun collections, which may well be making up for less sizable – um…Intellects! Of the sixteen candidates, they own at least 40 guns. That’s quite a lot of compensation, and a large candidate to gun ratio.
A truly sobering truth is how much weight the gun lobby swings in Washington D.C.. Fiore reminds us that when you put a Republican in the White House, the gun lobby moves right in with him. The gun pushers are in the lucky winner’s ear, influencing national gun law. Just look at how well they guided Governor Jeb Bush. Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law has been a raving success – just ask George Zimmerman.
On the bright side, having the gun lobby in-house would solve Lindsey Graham’s ‘First Lady’ problem. Graham – who owns the most guns, has speculated that if elected, a female family member would be called upon to play hostess at special White House events. There is no need to go to such lengths, when he’s already in bed with the gun lobby – but isn’t everyone?!
