Lawrence O’Donnell brings the writer of the breaking story from the National Memo. As a freshman at Stanford, Romney freaked out his dorm-mates with his odd obsession with a state trooper uniform his daddy the governor acquired for him. Romney wasn’t content to admire himself in the mirror, he put on the uniform, slapped a flashing red light on his white Rambler and proceeded to entertain himself by pulling over motorists! This is a misdemeanor, which also carries a fine – the first time. The next time it is a felony. O’Donnell notes that if wearing a uniform were important, Romney – who was pro-war, might have re-thought his four deferments!
Dorm mates recently interviewed said that his behavior was ‘weird’ and that they were ‘creeped out,’ and kept their distance from the uniform-wearing hair cutter. We seem to have a picture of a homophobic, power-hungry bully in the making, at a tender age.
This is a favorite ploy used by rapists, robbers and even murderers. I’m not saying Mitt got his jollies beyond playing policeman, but it is extremely strange. What would the talk of the nation be if Barack Obama had dressed in a uniform, impersonating an officer, and pulled people over on the highway?
