Someone who doesn’t ‘get it’ once characterized super delegates as being like ‘the Mighty Oz.’ This person must have fallen asleep when Oz was revealed to be a fraud, and not powerful at all. Sam describes Oz as “a mid-western snake-oil salesman, displaced to a land full of cowards, heartless people and straw-men…Sound familiar?” The political world is full of just such characters, and super-delegates can save us from infatuation with the wrong candidate. According to Sam, they have the best interests of our party at heart. If nothing else, they want to prevent the mess that was the ’68 Convention.
