The Fox News, talk radio spin on the shutdown is that it’s nothing, it effects no one of any worth, and it doesn’t matter. I have seen one area where it does matter.
We live about a mile from the Johnson Space Center for over 30 years now. It is also our bread and butter. This area, counter to what one would think being filled with rocket scientist from all over America and the world, is heavily Republican. This is where Tom DeLay would get 70% of the vote consistently. Well in the last two days that has changed. The restaurants are empty, business is down by across the board in the entire bay area, and their are rumblings of mutiny I have never heard before. And this is a very Tea Party Ugly area.
Sure the GOP takes joy in laid off Federal Employees, that goes without saying, but the business support chain that feeds off it is going out of business in just TWO DAYS.
