Stephen Colbert destroys Russ Feingold and Progressive PAC

Lots of laughs in this one!

Some were surprised when 3 term liberal Senator Russ Feingold was so easily defeated in Wisconsin last November. Though often considered an historic progressive state, Wisconsin is the home of the Republican Party which was founded in Ripon, WI in 1854. Its progressive history was under the leadership of Robert La Follet – who was as crazy as it sounds, a "progressive Republican." But Wisconsin is most remembered for Republican Senator Joe McCarthy, a drunken clown who gave us his namesake to one of the most vile "isms" in history, McCarthyism.

Before the recent attention Wisconsin received in its spat of Union busting, the state was probably best known (well other than the Packers) for being the state in which George Carlin was first arrested for saying the seven dirty words you cannot say on TV. In Milwaukee in 1972, the police stormed the Summerfest stage in front of thousands of fans to handcuff and drag Carlin off to jail. That led Carlin to the Supreme Court, where he lost his case. But there has been some success since then. You can now say "FART" on basic cable. We’ve come a long way…
