Jon Stewart will be away for two months this summer, and he’s leaving the audience with a familiar and well-liked substitute, John Oliver. After seven years as a correspondent, we might assume that Oliver would be comfortable sitting in Jon’s chair, but John confides his worries and concerns to Dave…Who is the guru of talk show hosting. Referring to the ‘Daily Show’ Oliver confides: “It is an American institution, and I just have to try not to destroy it.”
As it turns out, Oliver chose the right confidant. If you’re a ‘Daily Show’ fan you know that John Oliver is experienced, having done countless interviews…However, his stock-in-trade has been in ‘making fun of people’ – only the deserving, and in the nicest possible way. His genius lies in letting the dim and the pompous make fun of themselves, unknowingly of course.
While his interviews with the clueless are greatly anticipated due to their extreme hilarity, John is concerned that this is not the method to utilize when interviewing actors or authors who often stop by ‘The Daily Show’ – and he’s right. Oliver can now put his fears to rest. David gave him three fool-proof pointers which will cover any situation with grace and charm….and allow him to get in a few zzzzz’s too.
