Sam Bee says, you’d think crucial evidence for one of the worst crimes imaginable wouldn’t be gathering dust on a shelf like a can of creamed corn, but you’d be wrong.It’s no small thing to get rape kits distributed for law enforcement to use as a verified boon in catching violent felons. However, it’s proving even more trying to get police to use the kits and to hold onto them after they’ve been placed in evidence. Hundreds of thousands of kits have been used by rape victims, then thrown out when the evidence room officers feel the need to spring clean. As Sam mentions Marie Kondo’s clearing method IS popular with Americans this year. If your sock drawer and frilly underthings aren’t tidy, just leave the rape kits alone Officer Rowland.
Sam brings the enormous problem to light, and points out that those who minimize rape, like Sheriff Craig Rowland, who says most all rape is really “consensual” and Georgia Senator Renee Untermann, are running unopposed. Sam reminds us that all elections are important.
“No one wants to pay attention to Local elections, but remember, local elections are a lot like rape kits, no one wants pay attention to them but if you open them up, you just might get rid of someone who’s been screwing everyone in town.”
