Justice Scalia is not alone in this. All five to the Republican justices on the Supreme Court are in lock step with him but without the fire in the rhetoric. In researching this issue of ignoring racism to fix racism, I realized that all five of these justices are also Catholics. BTW, add Sotomayor to the Catholic list which makes six with the remaining three as Jewish. Not one protestant on the Supreme Court in this very very protestant country of ours. How weird.
So what is this about? It's that great and unnerving flaw in Libertarian or Randian theology, that we must act in terms of some imagined future rather than the present actual world we live in. That propensity [and enjoyment] of denying reality to argue one's wished for unrealistic ideology is what drives most of America's problems.
When we look at religion in America we see it as the advocate for executions, for war, for torture, for drones, for assault rifles, for extended magazines, for the wealthy, for Wall Street, for the powerful, for bigotry, for homophobia and above all, putting one's personal relationship with Jesus Christ about all else. As Jesus said so well, “I am my brother's worst nightmare.”
