Video: Lawrence ODonnell Penn Jillette, atheists know more about religion than church goers

Your Sunday school teacher isn’t the all-knowing expert that some might think, nor is Sister Mary Katherine of the Immaculate Order of the Knuckle Rap and Sucker Punch. In truth, your next-door neighbor who sleeps in on Sunday and
claims no religious affiliation may well be the expert on all things religious and godly.

O’Donnell and Jillette discuss a controversial poll of over 3,000 people which proves that atheists and agnostics know more about religion and belief systems than those who align themselves with a religion or call themselves believers. While many have theories about the surprising results of the poll, the President of American Atheists, Dave Silverman is not surprised. Silverman explains his theory:

"I have heard many times that atheists know more about religion than religious people. Atheism is an effect of that knowledge, not a lack of knowledge. I gave a bible to my daughter. That’s how you make atheists."

Here are just a couple of the worst of the bunch which should cause the "People of the Book" to bury it in their cat litter box.

"Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." God, Numbers 31:17-18

"And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the Sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: All the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses." Numbers 15:32 – 15:36
