“Remember Teddy Roosevelt’s line of speaking softly and carrying a big stick, Ben Carson’s line is to speak softly and be a big dick,” Larry Wilmore
It is not so much Ben Carson – who so often makes last presidential primary’s Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann seem MENSA material – as it is the Tea Party and the Republican base who carry the constitution around in their pockets screaming that it is the inerrant word of our founding atheists who wrote it, when none of them have actually read it, understand it or accept it.
United States Constitution Article VI, paragraph 3, and states,
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
Article VI aside, don’t think for a minute that it is just the birth clause of the 14th Amendment that Republicans don’t like, it’s the whole damn thing which causes all the troubles for real Americans. Nothing hurts white people more than due process and equal protection for EVERYONE.
You see the correlation between politics and religion? In this case specifically the correlation between the constitution and the Bible. It’s all about picking and choosing which parts you like and ignoring those parts you don’t like.
