Michele Bachmann was in Spartanburg, South Carolina for a campaign rally today starting things off with a rollicking suggestion that the crowd loudly wish Elvis a Happy Birthday! Thud. A certain lack of enthusiasm may have been caused by those in the crowd who were aware that it was on this day in August 34 years ago that Elvis had left the building for the very last time. He was TCB to the end. Bachmann, not wishing to seem like a phony politician (shudder) shared that she had a couple of Elvis tunes on her iPod. Has it escaped her notice that he has not played Vegas in some time?
This is but the second recent blunder by Bachmann, whom I presume has staff capable of checking these little facts. When Bachmann kicked off her campaign in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, she compared her spirit with that of actor John Wayne, also a Waterloo native. Indeed, Bachmann shares the "spirit and hometown" of serial killer John Wayne Gacy. The actor John Wayne is from Winterset, Iowa three hours away. Oops!
