This story is coming back here and there as Chris Buice, Pastor of the church recently spoke up and and the defense is going to play the insanity card in the upcoming March trial.
On a pleasant Sunday morning last July Jim David Adkisson walked into a Knoxville, Tennessee Unitarian Church with a guitar case. In it he had a 12 gauge shotgun and 75 shells. He killed two and wounded seven others before he was subdued by parishioners.
In a letter found in his car Jimbo wrote he targeted the Unitarian church:
“because of its liberal teachings and belief that all liberals should be killed because they were ruining the country, and that … the Democrats had tied his country’s hands in the war on terror and had ruined every institution in America with the aid of media outlets.”
One may think the man was driven insane by the relentless onslaught of liberal hatred spewing froth from the many right-wing TV and radio hosts. And one would be right. At his home police found front and center books from the worst of the liberal hating radio and TV talk show bunch.
“Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder” by radio talk show host Michael Savage.
“Let Freedom Ring” by talk show host Sean Hannity.
“The O’Reilly Factor” by television talk show host Bill O’Reilly.
Here are a few examples of the daily fare that comes out of these nasty dickheads:
“Liberalism is the greatest threat this country faces. Islamofascists are actually campaigning for the election of Democrats. Riots at the Democratic Convention would be the best damn thing that can happen to this country.” Rush Limbaugh
“There are things in life worth fighting and dying for, and one of them is making sure Nancy Pelosi doesn’t become the speaker.” Sean Hannity.
“The far left in America is dominated by haters, people who despise their own country.” Bill O’Reilly
“Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will march thousands of us into the hands of the enemy. They would gladly take the guns of the American military and turn them first on the American patriot, rather than turning the guns of the American patriot on the enemy within.” Michael Savage
Those quotes are just a nanonit of the hundreds of such bile soaked crap these right-wing clowns spew forth each and every day, week after week, year after year with no end in sight since Rush Limbaugh began it all in 1988. Now with the Right on the Run they are angrier and are more often crossing that line to incite violence than ever before. These quotes also fail to mention the worst of the bunch, the She Man Ann Coulter who you know damn will Mr. Adkisson was a fan of.
If you listen often enough you find the most constant sky is falling refrain from these radio hosts today are them squawking about the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine. That would mean that for every political stand they take, a radio station would have to give equal time to the other side.
This of course is impossible as most of these stations play the right-wing banter 24 hours a day, which would mean that congress would have pass legislation extending one day from 24 hours to 48 hours. And to make it even more untenable, it would ruin the radio market because liberals, who have jobs and real lives, do not spend their time listening to talk radio in the first place.
It is just another of the many strawman issues these hate mongers dwell in. Yet another way to demonize liberals as totalitarian Nazis, which through the use of political correctness, they have successfully been doing for a generation.
