It’s not just some faraway school in Mormon Utah that is taking food away from hungry children to punish their parents, it is also the Republican Party who does the same thing but in a much larger way. Their fight against funding preschool for the poor while they want to take money from public education to apply to paying for their kids in private schools. Their loud fight to cut the food stamp program while increasing subsidies for corporate farms. Their refusal to extend unemployment benefits so those most hurting and their children are hurt even more. FOR SOMETHING THEIR DEREGULATION AND FREE MARKET CRAP CAUSED NO LESS. Even the very concept of free lunches for hungry kids in public school is something they fight at every opportunity.
All because we must reduce the debt and the deficit on the backs of the least of us. On the backs of poor and hungry children. Of course the debt and deficit did not matter when Reagan tripled it, W. Bush doubled it or Vice President Cheney said “deficits don’t matter.” Suddenly the debt and deficit have been not only the be all and end all of Republican politics but compared to slavery and the Holocaust. When exactly did this change? When exactly did the Tea Party begin? What was the one thing more than anything that caused the Rightwing to take over the GOP? YOU KNOW THE ANSWER.
