Seth Meyers takes a break from breaking news to check in on why ‘President Trump’ is supporting the expansion of private prisons. You haven’t heard much about private prisons because President Obama had all but phased them out, because the industry has been shown- to use a Trumpism, “a disaster!”
The USA imprisons more of our citizens than any country in the world – yay US…More American exceptionalism! If private prisons thrive only by creating yet more criminals, they also thrive by electing them. Trump received generous campaign donations from private prison corporations, for which one was generously rewarded with a $100 Million dollar contract to build a detention center in Texas!
Apparently there is a crying need for more detention centers. Just ask the 10-year-old desperado who was locked up for lifting a bottle of nutmeg! That’s right,plain old ground nutmeg, not NyQuil, Nitro-glycerin, Rubies or whole vanilla beans.
