As if Hurricane Harvey weren’t enough to endure, you Texans will have Trump co-opting your misery, and taking credit for rescue efforts, do-nuts, fresh water and even the halting of the rain, as it must surely do eventually. You may remember Trump’s claims that the rain stopped at his ‘HUGE’ inauguration. Oddly, video exists of various dignitaries struggling with windblown plastic sheeting.
It’s only fair that Trump takes credit where it’s not due him. After all, you Texans stole his thunder this weekend. Trump had the all-important ratings and headlines sewn up, with the transgender ban tweet and his pardon of Joe Arpaio. Now that he knows that Harvey truly is a very big deal, he’s hopping into Corpus Christi to sell $40 hats – and no, the proceeds do not go to flood victims.
If it sounds tone-deaf to tweet ‘good luck’ to Texans, then campaign miles from a national tragedy – it is, and he’ll be back! Keith Olbermann is struck by Trump’s complete lack of humanity. He has shown no empathy, expressed no words of comfort and seems to have no understanding of tragedy. In fact, Trump appears to have no concern for human lives, other than those closest to him.
