Seth Meyers looks at Bernie Sander’s late endorsement of Hillary Clinton, and reveals that Bernie was accomplishing great things even as calls for him to drop out turned to actual boos from fellow Democrats. Each talking head on each and every cable news network fretted aloud, wondering how Bernie was going to ‘land the plane!’ Seth quips;”I don’t know how he’d land the plane, but he’d let everyone in coach get off before first class.” In a Bernie-like voice- “They’re hungry, they didn’t get the hot nuts on the flight.” As it turns out, Bernie was thinking about the least of us as he stalled, and if he didn’t win the race, he won great changes for all of us.
By using his leverage, the party and Hillary have committed to real policy changes. Democrats agree to taxing carbon emissions and breaking up big banks. Hillary now endorses the expansion of Medicare and making public college free for many families. Bernie has a plan to revamp the Postal Service, with expanded services that will save low income families $2,000 a year in the process. No more will postal outlets be merely spots for Pokemon to lurk.
Seth likens Bernie to the guy who stays way too long at your party, but then offers to stay and help clean up. He has an idea for this, and a more efficient way of cleaning that – his ideas may not seem exciting, but before you know it, the apartment looks better than it did before the party! While breaking up big banking and taxing carbon emissions can’t compete with the glamour of building a Mexican wall for some misguided souls, Bernie has helped make America even greater – for them too.
